Hama Beads

Many children love playing with beads. Hama is among the largest manufacturers of pearls and has been so for many years. They sell their products to more than 50 countries worldwide!

Behind Hama

Malte Haaning Plastic A/S was founded in 1961 by Malte Haaning. Production started with straws, which developed into other plastic items such as chopsticks, jump rope, fly swatters and many other things.

When there was suddenly a greater demand for tube beads, Malte Haaning decided to go in and try out this production. In the 1970s, Malte Haaning developed the ironing method. Before you started, you either glued the beads onto plastic trays or pieces of cardboard.

The name HAMA is a trademark registered in 1984. It is derived from the name of the company's founder: HA = the first 2 letters of the surname and MA = the first 2 letters of the first name. Hence the name: HAMA.

For the creative child - Hama beads are a perfect gift!

With the different pearls and pearl plates, you can make a whole lot of different shapes and patterns that will be a nice decoration in the house. For Christmas, the little one can make nice Christmas hearts, or a Christmas pig that can decorate the house. You can also put string through one of the beads and hang them on the Christmas tree.

Several bracelets, necklaces or rings can also be made with beads and string. That way you can make a lot of jewelery for yourself.

The three types of Hama Beads

During their development of the range, Hama has three main categories within their beads. In this way, you can play with pearls from a very young age, while growing up, and when you are a little older. The three main bead collections:
- Hama Maxi: These are the largest beads from Hama. They measure 10 mm in diameter and can be used by children aged 3 and up. Playing with beads will help the child to recognize colors.
- Hama Midi: This is the most well-known size of beads from Hama. They measure 5 mm in diameter and are recommended for children aged 5 and up. These beads can be both ironed and sewn onto things. You can also put them on a string and make a nice bracelet.
- Hama Mini: These are the smallest sized beads measuring 2.5mm and are recommended for children aged 10 and up. With these beads you can get a more detailed image with the same size bead plate. You can bring out more details with more shades of colors.

Develop your motor skills

Playing with beads requires a lot of concentration and patience. The small pearls require attention when they are to be put on the string or the pearl plate. In this way, the little one can both strengthen his motor skills while he/she has fun.

The little fingers will quickly find out that it is not entirely easy to handle the pearls, and that it will probably be a challenge. If it doesn't work right away, you have to try again. At the same time, it may well take some time if you have to make a larger pearl plate. So in that way, the pearls can help train the little one's patience.
